ICYMI: Hamilton Woman Nominated For State Heroine

Hamilton’s Nancy Stehfest is a Commonwealth Heroine.
Each year, the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women (MCSW) partners with legislators to identify and celebrate women across the state who work to make their communities a better place, often without recognition for doing so.
State Representative Kristin Kassner (D-Hamilton) nominated Stehfest for the title as a part of the MCSW Commonwealth Heroines Class of 2026.
“I was proud to nominate Nancy Stehfest as the 2026 Commonwealth Heroine,” Kassner said. “She is always helping people.”
Stehfest, a retired appeals coordinator for the Massachusetts Health Connector, now serves as clerk of the Hamilton Human Rights Commission and chair of the Hamilton Democratic Town Committee.
“In her work with the Health Connector, she cared for our residents, and she continues that same commitment as an engaged and active member of the Hamilton community. Nancy brings people together,” Kassner said. “Through her service on the Human Rights Commission, she works to ensure that every voice is heard.”
Stehfest and 144 other Commonwealth Heroines were recognized at the Massachusetts State House on June 24. This year’s heroines are part of the largest class since recognition began 23 years ago.
“Nancy leads with compassion, energy, and a genuine belief in the power of people working together,” Kassner said. “Our community is stronger because of her dedication.”
Stehfest did not respond to H-W News’ request for comment by deadline.
